The reason most people struggle with their health and wellness isn’t a lack of knowledge or a lack of discipline. It’s a lack of margin. The fact you’ve visited this article suggests you’re already a health conscious women - you know movement gives you vitality, you understand the value of nourishing meals, restful sleep and deep, meaningful connection. You may have saved articles, listened to podcasts, and made plans to care for your mind, body, and spirit. Yet, when real life hits, those plans fall to the wayside.
The problem rarely lies in your motivation. Often, it is the lack of space, support, and quiet intention required to put that knowledge into practice. Consider these all-too-familiar moments:
You want to move your body consistently, but your weekly calendar is already overflowing.
You long to prepare healthy meals, but convenience wins when you are mentally exhausted at the end of the day.
You want to spend time on restorative hobbies, but quiet guilt whispers that you’re neglecting other responsibilities.
You want to reconnect with a personal passion, but you cannot seem to find the mental headspace to even begin.
Before labeling it as a lack of discipline, ask yourself a different question:
Does my current lifestyle actually leave room for the wellbeing I want to cultivate?
Our bodies were not designed to live at maximum capacity continually. When every minute is spoken for, even the most life-giving habits feel like a demand.
Before You Add Another Habit, Prune First
When we want to improve our health, our default setting is addition: add a workout routine, add meal prep, add a new habit. But true transformation often starts with pruning.
If you want to clear room in your schedule and spirit, try this simple reflection exercise this week:
Map Your Current Week: Write down your regular commitments, daily obligations, and underlying routines. Be honest about where your hours actually go.
Notice the Draining Elements: Look closely at what exhausts you. Are there tasks you can delegate, simplify, postpone, or release altogether?
Identify What Deserves Priority: Name the activities, relationships, and spiritual practices that truly nourish you and contribute to a grounded sense of wellbeing.
Choose One Realistic Adjustment: Protect one evening for rest, block out 15 minutes for a prayer walk, or protect time for a creative project.
Sometimes, the most spiritual and healthy choice you can make is to recalibrate, and create breathing room.
Making Room for What Matters
Before you look at your to-do list for the week ahead, I invite you to pause and ask yourself:
What do I actually need to feel like myself again?
Consider making intentional space in just one of these key areas:
Rest and Restoration: What actually replenishes your energy? This might look like a quiet morning before the house wakes up, regular movement, time in a sauna, or simply leaving unscheduled buffer time in your weekend.
Relationships and Community: Which connections bring life, wisdom, and mutual encouragement? Where can you offer more presence to the people in your life?
Personal Growth and Joy: What curiosity, creative outlet, or interest have you put on hold? What might it look like to rediscover that joy?
Alignment and Vision: Looking toward this next season of life, do your daily choices match what you value most?
Choose just one focus from above, and sit with this final thought:
What is one thing I am currently saying 'yes' to out of guilt, obligation, or habit, that I need to gently let go of to make room for this area of my wellbeing?
